1989 XJS V12 Convertible having new suspension, rust repairs and protection

26/02/2008

A1Start
Work begins with suspension removal
A2FrontOut
Front suspension (in foreground) removed. It put up a bit of a struggle. This is a rusty car!
A3RearOut
Rear subframe out, awaiting stripping
A4RearCloseUp
Fair amount of corrosion on subframe cradle. All fixable though.
A5RearStripped
Rear fully stripped. Frame is saveable.
A6FrontBench
Front subframe on the bench. This is in much worse condition and may be beyond saving.
A7FrontClose
A close-up showing advanced rust on every components - except the quite new brake disc.
A8FrontRustedOut
As suspected, the front subframe rot is too advanced to save. This is unsafe and virtually unrepairable.
A9FrontRH
This is the other side and quite a bit better, but the whole subframe will have to go.
B1SillWeld
Sill ends along with a lot of the body need welsing - just started in this picture.
B2InnerWing
Usual rust patches on inside wing at damper re-inforcement. This will be patched and welded.
B3RHLeg
Rust holes in the front RH chassis leg will need welding.
B4FrontPanel
Front panel rotted away, lower wings rotted and front cross member not pretty....
B5RearIn1
Rear suspension fully rebuilt and going back into the car
B6Front1
Original front subframe was scrapped, this good, used one is now taking shape
