KWE Upgrades, Renewals and Re-commissioning
KWE offers full or part restoration, renewal or upgrading of your own Jaguar/Daimler XJ Series 3 or XJS. We have a menu of fixed services from which you can pick what you need and keep to a budget. Like our full cars, the price list is fixed and will only vary if abnormal problems are encountered of if you add to the requirement during the build stage. We also specialise in re-commissioning XJ and XJS cars that have been left idle or stored for some time.

A typical renewal will involve restoration of the
front and rear suspension assemblies, including most of the braking and
steering systems. This is one of the most important areas to renew
and improve on
these cars since they will all be suffering from corrosion,
perished parts
and worn out components contributing to vague steering, unsafe handling and eventual MoT failure or
worse.
The next important area is to recondition the
engine's ancillaries and perishable parts. This will include pumps,
radiators, starter,
alternator, distributor, hoses, belts, leads etc. Provided the engine has been
well serviced and is under 80,000 miles for a 6 cylinder or 100,000 miles for a
12 cylinder this is usually all that is necessary to restore full performance
and reliability to the engine. Results can be astonishing as lost performance is
restored! We can also offer upgrades to the engine's power ranging from 5% to
50%. We have wide experience with the Jaguar V12 engines as well as the XK and
AJ6/16 sixes.
If the engine is significantly worn with low oil pressure and high oil consumption we recommend a full rebuild which includes all new internal wearing parts with a chemical clean and cosmetic detailing. Please note though that the AJ6/16 engines are almost impossible to rebuild fully since Jaguar cannot supply basic parts for them. Fortunately these engines are superbly designed and seldom require a full rebuild.
We offer full renewal of the interior from changing the leather on the seats to a full make-over in bespoke colours and textures, new woods and carpets.
For the bodywork we offer three levels of service. A mild touch up and machine polish; a respray of the whole exterior and door shuts, or a full, bare metal respray in any colour inside and out. In the latter two cases we strip off all the brightwork, bumpers, lamps and accessories and refurbish them in the process. We always re-assemble with new or reconditioned fasteners - and with plenty of grease! We pay particular attention to any areas of rust in hidden areas and will not let the job go until we're satisfied that rust has been arrested and vulnerable areas are re-coated. This approach is expensive in time with the luxury level of trim on these cars, but assures the customer that we have not skimped.
We
urge customers to have their cars rust-protected since this is what, in the end,
can kill off the car. We
offer full hidden cavity wax injection with special
attention to wheel arches and rear portions of front wings. We can also high
pressure wash the underside, attend to rust and re-coat in modern underbody
sealant.

Re-commissioning. Many owners have not driven their XJ or XJS for several years and are fearful of the difficulty and expense in getting these superb cars back on the road. KWE are very experienced in bringing laid-up cars back to life and can transport them to our workshops with minimum inconvenience to the owner. Typical problems will be seized brakes, corroded cooling systems, rust and faulty electrics. As restorers we know exactly where to find the problems and have the skills to put them all right - and we can offer our upgrading service at the same time.
